About Us

NUS Scotland

NUS Scotland represents around 500,000 students in Scotland through our member college and university students’ associations. We work to promote, defend and extend the rights of students and to champion strong students' associations.

Students driving change

Scotland’s student movement has made significant achievements in the past few years. We have proved that by working in partnership, we can make student voices heard. In the last year alone we have successfully campaigned for:

  • An independent review into the student support system through our campaign for the Scottish Elections 2016.
  • The Scottish Government to meet their commitment to widening access to ensure that people from the poorest backgrounds can get into university.
  • The retention of bursaries for nursing students and to ensure that postgraduate students have access to loans to support their living costs and cost of their course.
  • Free bus travel for apprentices.

Our previous campaigns to end apartheid, bring in votes at 16 and 17 and our fight for LGBT+ rights also show how the student movement has the power to change lives.

All of our work is led by students.

Every year we hold an annual conference of student representatives in Scotland to decide which campaigns and policy work should be taken forward. Students are elected to lead the work of NUS Scotland. You can find out more about our elected officers here
