Islamophobia Awareness for Senior Leaders

We have been working to develop an awareness programme to upskill our senior leaders on Islamophobia and the impact of it within our movement.

As senior leaders of students’ unions, we are committed to a more equitable movement, to ensuring that all students on our campuses feel safe and that we are skilled enough to know how to support our staff and students in facilitating inclusive spaces.

Another step on this journey is to ensure we have the language, the emotional intelligence and the confidence to identify Islamophobia, take action on it, and work together to support our staff, officers and students in the fight for more equitable SUs.

In this programme we will explore:

  • An introduction to Islam
  • What is Islamophobia?
  • Everyday Islamophobia
  • Islamophobia, intersectionality and other forms of oppression
  • Islamophobia and the movement
  • Strategies for combating Islamophobia

We will also come together for guided action sessions, ensuring that we keep momentum for supporting eachother in applying our learning.
